Acceptance

Grief is an ongoing process in our lives, and our apprenticeship with each aspect of grief is ongoing. We will keep finding ourselves revisiting these emotions and receiving deeper gifts from our relationship with the elements of grief. Acceptance and integration involve creating a larger internal context in which to hold all of our feelings, thoughts and responses to what is happening currently. This expanded internal space, along with growing acceptance and appreciation of the healthy gifts of each feeling, allows our grief to bring deeper and deeper meaning to our lives.

To continue the process, it is important to have courageous, supportive spaces in which to share. To develop resilience, we need to be able to share our grief, and to  be inspired by others. Together we can make room for our grief and the ways that it calls us to action and to collective transformation.

If we have awareness and support, we can feel and express whatever emotions arise and use that energy in whatever way is right in the moment. We can use these energies to engage with the world in new ways. We may also notice that we need more time to discern what action we are being called to.

If we continue to broaden our acceptance of grief, we will continue to expand our ability to connect to the soul of the world, to hold deep and profound love and loss, grief and gratitude, and to respond to the world with our full capacity even in challenging external circumstances. If we stay connected to others who are able to hold space for us (and do their own sharing), we create a web of strength and resilience.
